Firearm Safety – USMC and PTP Versions

by Dustin Howard
USMC Version, the four firearm safety rules:
- Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
- Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you intend to fire.
- Never point your weapon at anything you don’t intend to shoot.
- Keep your weapon on safe until you intend to fire.
PTP Additions:
- A firearm is not a toy, or a social status.Â
- Keep the firearm secure and away from anyone who should not be able to reach it (i.i., CHILDREN!!!)
- Don’t expose the firearm unless you are willing to use it; you must be willing to pull the trigger under legal circumstances if you brandish the firearm for any reason.Â
- Only expose the firearm under verified threat to your safety and security, and/or those around you. Doing so otherwise may be a felony in your area.Â
- Every time you pull the trigger, your mindset must be that there’s a bullet in the chamber, even if you believe it’s empty.
- One mistake gets people hurt. There are no freebies, there are no second chances with firearm ownership; mistakes can kill.Â
